During pregnancy, the blood vessels dilate because of the increasing amount of pregnancy hormones. Your blood vessels will expand to accommodate the increasing volume of blood in the body. When this condition takes place, your blood pressure will temporarily drop. On the other hand, your heart needs to work hard to pump the extra blood circulating in your system. The hard pumping of your heart will also cause the dropping of your blood pressure. Remember that when you are pregnant, your body tends to generate 50% more blood. This is one of the prime reasons why you are experiencing dizziness during pregnancy.
How to avoid Dizziness during Pregnancy
Iron-deficiency anemia and hypotension are common causes of dizziness during pregnancy. When you have anemia, you just need to take iron supplements on a daily basis. Iron supplements are available in 30mg/tablet. It is natural that you may experience constipation when you are taking iron. To avoid suffering from constipation, you need to drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day. Eating fiber-rich foods are also a big help.
On the other hand, you need to avoid a sudden change of position to avoid a sudden drop of your blood pressure. When you are lying down, you need to dangle on your bed first before standing up. This will prevent pulling of your blood, thus you will not experience dizziness during pregnancy.
